A new Uptown Westerville business is hosting small-group classes to help bring out the artist in people of all ages and abilities.

Sylvana Whittaker opened Uptown Art & Clay, 13 ½ E. College Ave., in late March to provide an “art studio where we offer fun and creative instructor-led classes for adults and kids,” according to its Facebook page.

The business offers hand sculptures, custom artwork and special events that could be scheduled through Uptown Art & Clay’s website at uptownartandclay.com or by calling 614-701-8773.

“I’ve had a great welcome,” said Whittaker. “It makes me excited to see people getting creative. Even people scared of it are getting into it. Art is good for your soul.”

The Bexley resident, a graduate of Ringling College of Art + Design in Sarasota, Florida, said she attended school to become a fine-arts painter and had to take a ceramics class about which she had complained profusely.
